Dynamic Ranking - setup and functionality

Back Office Configuration

Menu : File Maintenance > System Configuration [ Dynamic Ranking ]

  • Dynamic Ranking Master Enabled - This will turn on or off the whole Dynamic Ranking system

  • Weeks to Calculate Average Sales for Stock Urgency - This is the number of weeks required for the calculation of average weekly sales, used for the calculation of stock urgency (weeks cover) and for the sales urgency (weekly sales).

  • Days to Calculate Top Sellers - This is the number of days used to calculate the top sellers for sales performance. Note that this links to an existing setting, which is also used for the top sellers on the website. (Top Seller Maintenance).

  • Ranking Type Active Status - This will allow you to turn on or off the calculation of scores for each ranking type.

  • Turning off one option will prevent that score type from being calculated and will not factor into the final score of a product next time the calculation runs. There may be older scores held and these will be recalculated if the option is later turned back on.

Web Department and Sub Department Maintenance

To enable Dynamic Ranking against a specific Web Department, you will need to configure the weighting for each department within Web Department/Sub Department Maintenance

It is possible for some web departments to have dynamic ranking while others are manually ranked.

The rules apply to the web department and all its sub departments, will inherit the rule of it’s parent department. Exemptions for specific sub departments are not possible.

It is also not possible to fix specific products at a particular rank when dynamic ranking is enabled for this web department.

Click on Maintain Dynamic Ranking Weighting Settings

Please note - if the settings are set to 0 against each attribute, then the Dynamic Ranking functionality is not enabled for this department. Please continue to use Manual Ranking for these Web Departments.

Strength:

5 = max
0 = inactive

Explanation of each scoring type

  • Newness - This is calculated from the catalogue created date with newer products giving a higher score and older products giving a lower score.

  • Product Price - Products are ranked by the current price of the product, without factoring in online discounts etc.

  • Percentage reduced - Products are ranked by the percentage off the full price, that is the currency price as a percentage off the RRP. A product that was originally £100 and is now £75 (25%) will give a higher score than a product that was £50 and is now £40 (20%). This does not factor website discounts or vat deductions etc.

  • Stock Urgency - This is split into 2 calculations:

    • Stock Urgency - Products are ranked based of the weeks cover of the product

    • Sales Urgency - Products are ranked based on the average weekly sales of the product

  • Sales Performance - Products are ranked based on the top selling items (by quantity sold) within the last x days

  • Profit margin - Products are ranked based on the margin in £s. (currency sell price - vat - cost)

    • E.g. A product that sells for £60 and costs £10 will have a margin of £40. Products with a higher margin in £s will rank higher.

Once the changes are made, the job will process hourly. Please note for the staging sites we can setup as frequent as you would like for short periods to aid testing.

Ranking Maintenance

Ranking Maintenance will now have additional information about products that have Dynamic Ranking Scores. The overall final score will show on this page next to each product and if you hover the mouse over the icon, you can see the breakdown of each ranking type scores.

Please note any changes made here will only be temporary as next time the Dynamic Ranking recalculates it will put the products back into their calculated positions.

For example if you were to order the products on this page into an order you like, next time the recalculation job runs it will move all the products into their calculated place. Any manual changes made to this page will only be temporary until it recalculates every hour. If you want to manually rank your products, you will need to disable Dynamic Rankings for this web department.

You do not need to press any of the buttons on this screen to automatically rank products. If you make amendments you will need to press the Update Rankings buttons, but as detailed above, this will only be temporary if Dynamic Ranking is turned on.
